Sleep Apnea Treatment in Nashville, TN

AADSM Logo | Sleep Apnea Treatment BrentwoodIt’s common to snore occasionally. But if you are snoring constantly and having problems getting enough sleep, you may be suffering from what we call sleep-disordered breathing, which can include sleep apnea.

Patients with sleep apnea experience an obstructed airflow that prevents oxygen from moving freely from the nose and mouth to the lungs. CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) is a common first-line therapy, but nearly half of all people for whom CPAP is prescribed are unable to comply. sleep apnea | brentwood tn dentist

If you have struggled with using a CPAP mask, you will be pleased to know that the doctors at Sullivan Dental Partners can help you find relief with a simple customized dental appliance.

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a disruptive and potentially life-threatening condition that deprives your body of a steady flow of oxygen. With OSA, the airway is blocked or has collapsed, which causes shallow breathing and pauses in breathing. Sleep apnea also causes snoring as the air squeezes past the blockage.

Patients with OSA experience multiple pauses in their breathing every night. It’s not uncommon to experience these pauses anywhere from 5 to 30 times an hour. Each episode may last for a few seconds or even as long as a few minutes.

These pauses lead to disrupted sleep, low oxygen levels, fatigue during the day, and problems with concentration and memory. Left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeats, and stroke.

Frequently Asked Questions

sleep apnea treatment in brentwood tnSleep apnea is a potentially life-threatening disorder that occurs when your airway is blocked or constricted during sleep. It is typically characterized by long pauses in breathing, excessive snoring, and gasping for air. For some, these long pauses can occur hundreds of times a night, depriving the body of much-needed oxygen.

Until recently, the first line treatment for sleep apnea was a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine. This method involves wearing a mask that applies a flow of mild air pressure to keep the airway open during sleep.

While CPAP treatment is highly effective, especially for those with severe sleep apnea, many patients find the mask too bulky and uncomfortable to wear during sleep. The result is that a lot of sleep apnea sufferers choose not to wear the mask, which puts their general health at risk.

How we treat sleep apnea

At Sullivan Dental Partners, we have a better way. Many of our patients have found relief for sleep apnea at our Brentwood dental office with a customized dental device called Optisleep that repositions your jaw slightly forward during sleep. This movement keeps your airway open so you can breathe freely.

We use state-of-the-art digital imaging technology called SICAT to analyze your upper airway to identify the blockage. We’ll share this information with your physician, who will determine if Optisleep is the safest choice for you.

Please call Sullivan Dental Partners to get your sleep apnea under control and allow you to breathe comfortably again.

Have you been accused of loud snoring during the night? Do you suffer from chronic fatigue and find yourself exhausted by the afternoon? Do you sometimes wake during the night gasping for air or coughing? All of these factors are symptoms of sleep apnea, which is a sleep disorder that causes you to stop breathing multiple times throughout the night. Couple with sleep apnea in brentwood tn

If you've heard of sleep apnea, you might know that it takes a sleep study to accurately diagnose the condition. Your team at Sullivan Dental Partners offers a take-home sleep study that can be completed in the comfort of your own bed. This means you don't have to go to a sleep lab and have someone watch and monitor your sleep; and better yet, you'll receive your results the next morning!

If you do have sleep apnea

If your test shows that you suffer from sleep apnea, we will then scan your teeth and analyze your airways with specialized software called SICAT. This innovative software allows our doctors to identify obstructions that could be causing your sleep apnea and keeping you from getting the rest you need.

At Sullivan Dental Partners, we also offer customized appliances that can be a more comfortable sleep apnea treatment in Brentwood as opposed to standard CPAP therapy. Contact our dental office today for more information.

We will work with your physician to determine the safest and most effective treatment for your sleep apnea. Our doctors may recommend an at-home Braebon Medibyte Jr. sleep study to evaluate your breathing patterns during sleep. The results of the study are then sent to sleep physicians for interpretation. In many cases, this information can allow us to bill medical insurance for treatment costs.

Sleep Better Tennessee is a division of Sullivan Dental Partners that was created to treat patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and/or Snoring.  We provide the patients that are interested or feel they express the signs and symptoms of OSA with an At-Home Sleep Study to help diagnose the condition.  Upon completion, we can help direct them towards Oral Appliance Therapy or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP).  We provide treatment via Oral Appliance Therapy from start to finish.

Your First Visit in Nashville

When a new patient comes in, we will schedule you for an At-Home Sleep Study.  You will pick up the study, complete it that night, and bring it in to review the results the following morning.  If you choose to move forward with treatment, then we will proceed with a thorough exam and begin the process of fitting you for the appliance that best fits your needs.  This process is completed digitally, making it more efficient and comfortable for you.

We do not want insurance to dictate whether or not the patient moves forward with treatment, so we have set our package at a reasonable fee so that patients can proceed with or without insurance.
