Dr. Richard Sullivan, IV

Hey! I’m Dr. Sully, the younger half of the father-son duo at Sullivan Dental Partners. Being a fourth-generation dentist has been more rewarding and fulfilling than I ever could have imagined. Growing up, I saw the deep bonds my father formed with his patients, and I knew early on that I wanted to follow in his and my granddad’s footsteps.

I began my academic journey at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, graduating with honors in 2011. I furthered my education at the Tennessee College of Dentistry, where I obtained my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2015 and was honored with the Dean’s Award for Clinical Excellence.  In addition to my formal education, I’ve been proactive in embracing the latest advancements in dental technology. I constantly seek out contemporary techniques and breakthroughs in the field. With the rapid evolution of dental science, I engage in regular courses, meetings, and lectures, notably with the American Dental Association, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, our Dental Leaders of Middle Tennessee Study Club, and as an instructor and coach with 3D Dentists.

One aspect of dentistry that resonates deeply with me is its transformative power. Beyond routine oral care, my primary focus lies in handling complex, comprehensive dental cases. This includes smile makeovers, full mouth reconstructions, and state-of-the-art solutions like implant-supported dentures. The gratification I receive from restoring not just a patient’s smile, but also their confidence and functionality, is profound.
On a personal note, my son, Hugh (Richard Hugh Sullivan V), born in 2018, represents the potential fifth generation in the Sullivan Dental lineage..fingers crossed!  When I’m not working, which I will admit is rare, I enjoy spending time with my family at the lake, traveling with friends and cheering on the Tennessee Vols.  Central to my life, both professionally and personally, is my relationship with Jesus Christ, who remains my guiding light.

Dentistry, for me, goes beyond oral care. It’s about providing the highest standard of care with the most innovative technology and customizing it to each individual patient’s needs.
